I am Jayla. A wife, mother of 3(8,7,2), full time realtor/social media director and co-host of our weekly self-improvement podcast. I am loud, spontaneous, a thriving energetic morning person, and always ready to bust out a dance move. I am from a small town with one caution light and a popular dairy bar, I moved to Wheeling, WV when I transferred colleges in 2007 and never left.
I was always a go getter and worked through college. After college, I continued that drive and worked two jobs until having two kids back-to-back and landing my hardest job ever as a stay-at-home-mom. While I have no regrets, this time was a hard adjustment for me. Being an extrovert, I needed to get back to work to some degree. I decided to go “part time” in real estate (I was never part time due to my go getter personality lol). While going through the classes, my mother/hero became sick for the third time with breast cancer. The first time was when I was 4 years old. My mom moved in with my crazy little family and started treatment. I ended up pregnant with my third child and was just keeping up like I do. Push forward and pile up the plate. My mom started weekly aggressive treatments in Cleveland and things were getting better until they weren’t. In six short months, I began working FULL time again since being home for 6 years, taking care of a newborn (and my younger children), and planning my young mother’s funeral. There are a lot of details and things I am not mentioning. It is still very hard to circle back to my reasons why I started this “self help junkie” journey. However, one of my main reasons I am happy I began to be curious about it is because it led to a strengthened friendship with Shaye. Our friendship began as having kids similar in age, to belonging to the same yoga studio then eventually meeting to jog in the mornings when yoga wasn’t available in our early riser schedules. We both started looking into and trying little “turtle steps” and sharing our experiences. This led to trying things togethers such as reading the same self-improvement books and doing meditation/,manifestation challenges together. We would sign up, participate, and discuss ways it helped us until we both has a desire to share to possibly help others. We wanted to share our knowledge because “Why not?” It has helped us up until now and I look forward to what to come with Shaye and other “why notters.”

I’m Shaye, a mom of two, wife, cat lover, full time sales representative, and cohost of our weekly self improvement podcast. I’m from a small town in the Ohio Valley and currently live in Wheeling, Wv. Outside of my family, I enjoy jogging, cooking, nature, yoga, dancing, travel, anything labeled as a dessert, and I enjoy a daily glass of kombucha. I’m also self improvement obsessed and consume copious amounts of podcasts, books, and courses on topics within the mindset arena.
My journey with mindset work began in 2013 shortly after the birth of my kids. I had endured years of fertility treatments to conceive them and ended up having IVF with both. This took more of a toll on me mentally and physically than I could’ve imagined. Simultaneously, I started a very demanding sales job where I was suffering from imposter syndrome daily. I was living in a constant state of fight or flight and as a result I developed chronic hives, heart palpitations, and several cases of shingles (it’s not just a virus of the elderly). This was so upsetting and I knew I had to make a change from within to help myself cope with the demands of work, parenthood, relationships and all that comes with midlife.
I drive a lot for my sales job, and I was tired of listening to the same old Sirius Xm stations. So, I canceled my subscription and gave Podcasts a try. While on a drive to one of my accounts, I stumbled upon the Oprah Super Soul podcast. My mind was blown. I had never heard concepts like this and I was obsessed with learning more. While listening to Oprah’s podcast and others like it, I was introduced to mindfulness and spiritual leaders like Elkhart Tolle, Brenee Brown, Mel Robins, Marie Forleo, Kathrin Zenkina, Jay Shetty, Lewis Howes, Maria Menounous, Marianne Williamson, Abraham Hicks, Deepak Chopra, and Miguel Ruiz, and my awareness around thought work, manifesting, and mindfulness began to increase.
I started to think of my drives for work like “life school” and couldn’t wait to learn more and implement the tips, techniques and mindfulness practices expressed by these experts into my everyday life. As I started to take action on what I was learning, my hives disappeared, my heart palpitations were gone, my shingles cleared up, and I began to feel better and better. I started manifesting more situations, people, and experiences in my life that made me feel good and I became more conscious of my thoughts and emotions and how they impact my day to day life. I remember thinking, “why didn’t I ever learn this in school or at the workplace?” And ,”who can I talk to about this?”, and “how can I help others learn about these concepts?”
Cue Jayla (I swear we manifested our relationship). She and I met through our kids and started doing yoga and running together. In the beginning it was just a relationship based on exercise and our kids, but as we got more comfortable, we quickly realized that we were into learning about the same self improvement ideas. We would talk about all the things we were learning during our morning jogs and one day thought that our conversations may be helpful to others.
So we decided to create our weekly self improvement podcast because, “Why not?!” She is one of my life guru’s and I’m so grateful for her and our friendship.
